In my opinion, Australian Police maybe helpful, but not enough to trust, if you want to get help when you are in danger, trusting in police is not a good option.
The current police GPS system is still not consummate to track all the incoming calls. They can only know where you are if you are using a local telephone. If you use a mobile phone, they would not find you, only your mobile number appear on the GPS machine.
Here comes up some problems:
1. Can you use a local phone when you get attact in public, or even in home but away from your home phone?
2. If you are lucky, call 000 from your local phone, do you have time and chance to say the details of situation while the invader is busy to find your money just near you, isn't difficult to do? I don't even think you have the chance to call 000.
3. How much money the government spend on the prisions and criminals every year? But why we can not get a near consummateGPS system?
4. What lead the criminals to do such crimes? Why they keep doing this?

Self Defense or Self Incrimination?
Self Defense or Self Incrimination?
In the news on 18 November 2008, The Daily Telegraph, which titled “Debate rages over resident’s citizens arrest right”, and news on 27 November 2008 “Baseball skills came in handy against home invader”, the critical issue of judging the citizen as criminal and in charge of hurting the real “criminal”.
It's always a critical issue to say the victim is criminal or not. I think the victims should protect themselves at first place, use everything they could use to make themselves safe, this include hurt the criminals. But the thing must be considered at that dangerous one second is the force you going to use to hit the criminal. How could you think how much force you going to use to self defense and keep the criminal away from you while you are in danger? Why such issues always brought front to us as the innocent residents, those who are considered in charge because of you hit the invader to protect yourself and your properties? Should not the law protect our rights at first place?

Bomb alert over at Sydney’s Strathfield rail station
On 11th December 2008,platforms closed when a package was found near the Sydney Strathfield rail station and have reopened after it was deemed “innocuous” and there’s no peak hour delays are expected.
The police evacuated two platforms at the inner west busy Strathfield train station about 1:30 pm yesterday after a suspicious item was discovered in a car park adjacent to the tracks.
A short time later, police confirmed the item was harmless.
After the September 11 the news about national secutiry are getting more attention from the audience from the public not just in America but also in Australia.
The police ask the public to care and make attention about the nation security that is the reason the public report about the bag in Strathfield station yesterday.
The police and also the government and the media should provide the notice about what should the public do if the dangerous happens and the reaction from the public should be like not getting scared and run away should follow the instructions from the police and leave the place.

How much you can trust in Australia Police?
We attended the Community Forum of Residential Safety in Local Community on 24 November 2008, and asked two questions to the police officers, I think most people are wondering about the answers of these two questions.
Question one:
How could you say all the details when you call 000 in a really dangerous situation, like the criminal is holding a knife on your neck, and you only got one chance to call for “help”? Will the police find you and come to save you really on time?
The police said we have the tracker to find your position, but it can only be used for home phone. Your home phone number and your address will be shown on the police computer, so they will find where you calling from. But they could not find you when you call from your mobile phone. I am wondering, when the criminal imperiled me and I can only reach my mobile phone that means the police would not save me, because they could not find me. So, why don’t the police setup the advanced GPS system to track the incoming calls for help?
The police officer had reminded “Don’t put yourself in such dangerous situation”. Of course, no one wants to be in dangerous and imperiled by the criminal. To avoid yourself in danger, you need to walk on the main street, do not go back home in dark night by yourself, better to call someone with you, etc. However, there is always a chance to be in danger, we need to know how could we protect ourselves in such situation. You need to be confident and calm when you encounter the criminal, give them whatever they want, “Remember, your property can be replaced but your life can not!”
This deals with another question.
Question two:
What sort of weapons we can use for self-defense?
Firstly, the police officer answers this question like this: It becomes critical to say whether you can protect yourself. It means, refers to the Australian Criminal Law, under self-defense law, you can not bring a knife, stun gun, or even a pepper spray with you, and can not use those as the weapons to protect and used to the criminal, because you may hurt him/her.
Secondly, the force you used to self-defend may affect the consequence you may take, because the criminal maybe injured. That means, the force and the weapon you use should not be larger than the criminal’s.
In conclusion, the criminal’s rights are more benefited than us. We can not use any weapon for SELF-DEFENCE, even the non-harmful pepper spray; we can not hurt the criminal but they can hurt us; we may be in jail because we hurt them for protect ourselves; the criminals can imperil us anywhere at anytime, because the would not be charged in really serious consequences; therefore, the number of criminal increased, people feel unsafe all the time, the law of Australia would not protect us but the criminal!
Suggestions to the government:
+ Advanced GPS tracker system
+ New law of self-defense to allow us to take at least the pepper spray
+ Pay more attention on residents’ personal safety and reduce the percentage of crime
+ New criminal laws to make the criminals afraid to do such crimes

Eight ATM 'Bam' raid in ten days across Sydney
Eight ATM 'Bam' raid in ten days across Sydney
Hummm, now I think it became 10 ATM raid in two weeks. Have to admit it is really “eye-catching” news in the last two weeks. The source is from Daily Telegraph, Nov.27th, 08. First to know this news I felt like “wow”, that’s so cool! Just kidding~:p
People gossip that it is such a shame for the Police, like a big smack on the police authority’s face. Cuz, they have no ideas to catch these “bombers”. The residents are worried about whether their neighbourhood ATM is gonna bomb up. I told my mum about this news, and she said “….then walk way from the ATM!!” haha
But don't need to worry too much, because these criminals only blow the ATM at midnight. If you were not always go to the ATMs at midnight. That’s fine. If you were on the way to the ATM at midnight and very coincidently meet these people, using your brand new 5.0 mega pixels mobile phone to have a nice and memorable shoot. Don't forget to call the police, even you think it might be useless we still need to give a lit bit hope to our policemen, and send the video to the Youtube for sharing. I ‘d like to watch how they blow up the ATM~~~ & make sure you are at the safe place. poor banks.......

Man stabbed outside Chinatown karaoke bar
The news from the Brisbane Times from Nov.7th, 08 is about a man stabbed outside Chinatown Karaoke Bar. Firstly, this news is lack of more details, so I am not sure it is the same violence accident as I know. Well, as a Chinese, I have to tell Chinatown is a very dangerous place. From the news, an 18 years old boy was stabbed at 1.30am outside the Phoenix Karaoke. My source tells that there were two groups of people fighting, and I guess they are the Chinese gangsters. This boy didn't belong to any groups of them. What he did is that he just tried to mediate, and the tragic things happened. Maybe, these gangsters felt pissed about this boy, and just gave him some stabs.
For me, I don't even surprise about this news, because these kinds of bustups happens at least once every month in Chinatown. I have just seen twice. How random! To tell the truth, before I came to Sydney, I thought gangsters are only on the film screen, and it is far from my life. You might say, “Really? Sounds like you were so innocent. ” yep, compare with the security system in Shanghai, I feel much more safety. Well, it depends on the laws in China (e.g., the famous death penalty, drug using is illegal….), and Chinese population makes more police, more security guards.
Anyways, the Australian laws and lack of police power can’t even deal with the criminals and gangsters. Be careful, guys~~ Better to avoid these dangerous people, don't try to mediate them. The only thing you can do is to call the police at first place.

For me, I don't even surprise about this news, because these kinds of bustups happens at least once every month in Chinatown. I have just seen twice. How random! To tell the truth, before I came to Sydney, I thought gangsters are only on the film screen, and it is far from my life. You might say, “Really? Sounds like you were so innocent. ” yep, compare with the security system in Shanghai, I feel much more safety. Well, it depends on the laws in China (e.g., the famous death penalty, drug using is illegal….), and Chinese population makes more police, more security guards.
Anyways, the Australian laws and lack of police power can’t even deal with the criminals and gangsters. Be careful, guys~~ Better to avoid these dangerous people, don't try to mediate them. The only thing you can do is to call the police at first place.
